So my initial idea is a twist thriller set in 1960 New York. It is about a detective who investigates a missing childs case alongside his partner who is new to the investigation team. The missing child is a 14 year old boy and the film is set just after the incident then 2 years after when the case is starting to go cold. I think the detective should be desperately trying to find him on the day but fails to pick up any real evidence then suddenly picks up a clue of a pen lid been left on the floor near where the child was last seen. Then it juxtaposes to a year later when the detective is still trying to find the boy and has all the files obsessively layed across his desk with all the evidence and witness reports they have picked up from the day. He can then realise at the end that the pen lid was in fact part of the missing pen that his partner had after they were on patrol and that the kidnapping was not actually a kidnapping but an accidental murder where the partners wife accidently ran over the missing kid and the partner was forced to hide the evidence.
At first glance I'm not sure about this idea, it seems to complex and difficult to pull of as a visual film and would be hard with a lack of special effects however I feel that this is a good foundation that I can improve or change dramatically as I work on it further and in more detail.
